What Is NIOS and How Does It Function in Bangalore?

The **National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS)*

is an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Education, Government of India. As the largest open schooling system globally, NIOS provides school education up to pre-degree level with unmatched flexibility.

### Is NIOS Equivalent to CBSE, ICSE, and State Boards?

One of the most frequent questions parents ask at Proventus Academy is whether an NIOS Secondary (10th) certificate is recognized for higher studies.

The answer is an unambiguous **yes**. The Association of Indian Universities (AIU), the Council of Boards of School Education in India (COBSE), and the Ministry of Education treat NIOS certificates on complete par with CBSE and ICSE:

* **NEET & JEE:** The National Testing Agency (NTA) accepts NIOS candidates for NEET-UG and JEE Main.

**Pre-University (PUC) & 11th Standard:** All Karnataka PU Colleges and national +2 schools accept NIOS 10th certificates.

**UPSC & Government Examinations:** NIOS certificates are valid for civil services and state competitive exams.

**International Admissions:** Foreign universities evaluating Indian high school qualifications recognize NIOS equivalency.
